Admiral Patrick
Ensign Reyes — eager, well-meaning, catastrophically enthusiastic — has organised what she is calling a "crew bonding experience" in the starbase's recreational bay. It involves a team obstacle course, matching t-shirts, and something called a trust fall. I attended for fourteen minutes, which I consider a significant personal sacrifice. I did not do the trust fall. I explained that trust, in my experience, is established through consistent performance under pressure over a period of years, not by falling backwards into the arms of someone who still laughs at their own jokes in senior staff meetings. Reyes took this well. She is resilient. She may make a decent officer yet.
